Deleted Emails: How do I get them back?

Recovering Deleted Emails: A Guide by Email Provider

Here’s what to do if you accidentally deleted an email and it’s not in your Trash folder anymore. While email providers offer limited recovery options, success depends on your specific provider and how long ago the email was deleted.

General Tips:

  • Start by searching your email using all available fields like To, From, Subject, keywords, and date range.
  • Remember, Gmail offers a 30-day grace period in Trash, while some providers may not.

By Email Provider:

Gmail:

  • Search: Try searching all your mail with a broad date range and empty Trash selected. Sort by oldest first.
  • Recovery Tool: For unauthorized access cases, consider Google’s Email Recovery request: Link to Gmail Message Recovery Tool

Yahoo Mail:

  • Trash Folder: If the email’s still in Trash, move it back to Inbox.
  • Restore Form: If not in Trash, try Yahoo’s Restore Help Form: Link to Yahoo Help Form

Outlook (Hotmail):

  • Deleted Items Folder: If the email’s still there, move it back to Inbox.
  • Recover Deleted Items: In the Deleted Items folder, select “Recover deleted items” to retrieve emails permanently deleted within a limited timeframe.
