Surviving An Email Bomb Attack

Beware the Email Bomb Attack (And How SaneBox Protects You)

What is an Email Bomb Attack?

Ever get a sudden surge of emails just as you make a large purchase? That might be an email bomb attack, a type of Denial-of-Service (DoS) attack used to distract you from fraudulent activity. The attacker floods your inbox with junk emails while attempting a large purchase on your credit card.

How Does SaneBox Help?

SaneBox identifies these bomb attacks because the emails aren’t “Inbox worthy.” They’ll be safely filtered to your SaneLater or SaneNews folders, minimizing the risk of distraction.

What to Do During an Attack:

  1. Check Your Credit Card: Immediately log in to your credit card accounts and review recent transactions. Remember, depending on your email server, it might take a few hours for SaneBox to move the bomb emails.

  1. Clean Up with SaneBox Cleanup Tool:

    • Open the SaneBox Cleanup Tool.
    • Select the view “Newer than: 12 hours (email bomb cleanup)”.

  1. Clear the Bomb:

    • Click “Select All” to highlight all emails.
    • Scroll through and uncheck any legitimate emails you want to keep.
    • Train the remaining emails to “SaneBlackHole” to permanently remove them.

Stay Safe with SaneBox!

By filtering out email bombs, SaneBox helps you stay alert to potential fraud.
