Fast Mail: Creating an Alias.

What are Email Aliases?

Email aliases are additional email addresses that forward messages to your primary Fastmail inbox. They’re like having multiple nicknames for your main email, allowing you to use different addresses for specific purposes.

Benefits of Using Email Aliases:
  • Organization: Separate emails for work, personal, or specific projects.
  • Privacy: Protect your main email address from spam by using aliases for online registrations or subscriptions.
  • Flexibility: Easily create and manage aliases as needed.

Creating Email Aliases in Fastmail:
  • Log in to Your Fastmail Account:
    • Access your Fastmail webmail interface.
  • Navigate to Settings:
    • Look for the “Settings” or “Preferences” section
      • usually located in the top right corner.
  • Find User and Alias Management:
    • Search for options related to users, aliases, or email addresses.
  • Create New Alias:
    • Select the option to create a new alias.
  • Choose an Alias:
    • Enter a desired name for your alias. Ensure it follows Fastmail’s naming conventions (e.g., no spaces, avoid reserved words).
  • Save Changes:
    • Click “Save” or “OK” to confirm the creation of your new alias.

Using Your Email Aliases:

Once created, you can start using your alias email addresses. Simply send or receive emails using them as you would with your primary Fastmail address.

Additional Tips:
  • Consider Using “+” in Your Alias: Many email providers allow you to add a “+” symbol followed by any text to your main email address to create a unique alias. For example, “yourname+[email address removed]” would be a valid alias.
  • Manage Aliases: You can edit or delete existing aliases within your Fastmail settings.

Enjoy the Flexibility of Email Aliases!

By using email aliases, you can enhance your email organization and privacy while maintaining a single inbox for easy management.
