Google Apps: How to Enable IMAP

Enable IMAP Access for Your Team in Google Workspace

Ready to empower your team with better email management through IMAP? Here’s how to enable IMAP access in the Google Admin Console:

  1. Head to the Google Admin Console: Sign in using your administrator account (it won’t end in “@gmail.com”) at this link.

  2. Navigate to Advanced Gmail Settings: From the dashboard, go to Apps > Google Workspace > Gmail. Then, under End User Access, choose POP and IMAP access.

  3. Select Your Organizational Units: If you want to enable IMAP for a specific department or team, choose their organizational unit from the Organizations section. Otherwise, leave it unselected for domain-wide access.

  4. POP and IMAP access: Click the row for POP and IMAP Access section. Check the box for “Enable IMAP access for all users”.

Important Note: Allow up to an hour for changes to take effect across your team’s accounts.

That’s it! With IMAP enabled, your team can now seamlessly connect their favorite email clients (like Outlook or Apple Mail) to their Google Workspace accounts.
